Like most people planning to increase the size of their family, I signed up for many newsletters on baby info and so on. I started receiving baby magazines left and right. One mag in particular had a beautiful new Fisher-Price collection. Yes, the Rainforest collection. At this point in time, a baby was in the distant future. We'd talked about another child, but hadn't made the final decision yet. Of course, if I was going to have another baby, I was going to have this Rainforest Collection! That was final.
The decision was made to try for real. It took many months of charting and "trying". This was something I had never had to deal with before. Usually my husband looks at me sideways and I'm pregnant. Well, time goes on, we get older, and maybe things just don't work like they used to. ~shrug~
Time went by, 9 months, to be exact, and then it just happened. The moment I am finally able to stop thinking about it, boom! Baby! Mind you, all this time I spent looking for that damned Rainforest Playyard. I finally found it in May of 2008. At the time I was about 3 months along. We had traveled to Gainesville to buy the thing that I wanted so bad and yet couldn't really afford at the time. On May 19th, 2008 (the day before our 13th wedding anniversary) we purchased the Fisher-Price Simplicity Rainforest Playyard from the Gainesville Wal*Mart for a total of $99.98 plus tax. I was so happy! I had a baby in my belly and that baby would have a cute little Rainforest playyard. Yay!
The baby came and we used this awesome Playyard. Did I mention it was awesome? In January of 2009, the Consumer Products Safety Commision (CPSC) issues a recall on this very item. I only found out about the recall in early April. Nice, right?
My beautiful brand new baby girl was about to be bedless. The recall stated that I should confirm that my playyard was part of the recall (duh!) and then follow the instructions to get my refund. To get my refund, I must cut out the 4 mesh side panels and send them to the Mattel Returns Department. Within 6-8 weeks AFTER receiving my panels, they will issue me a check for $100, the approximate retail value. What I don't understand is... in the meantime, where am I supposed to set my baby down where her brothers and sister can't step on her?? That's right! My baby is bedless! Do they not understand that in this economy, no one has an extra $100 to just go out and buy another playyard. Ugh!
Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the opportunity to get my money back and eventually purchase another safe haven for my little one. However, what do I do for now?
